My summer experiences in Israel, where I discovered a unique fashion landscape that values comfort and authenticity. Unlike the performances of cities like New York and London, Israeli style reflects effortless confidence. Join me as I examine how local street fashion expresses personal identity amidst challenges. New column for Fashion Israel by Ava Swidler
Shalom, my new friends!
My name is Ava Swidler—self-proclaimed fashion enthusiast, art lover, and proud owner of anything pink or sparkly. Originally from a small town in England and now based in New York, I’ve always used fashion as a form of expression, storytelling, and self-love. Now, I get to write about it all.
This summer, I came to Israel to explore its creative world—and wow, it has been eye-opening. Coming from cities like New York and London, where fashion can feel like a full-blown performance, Israel offers a refreshing contrast. Here, style is quieter, cooler, and effortlessly chic. A simple look—a bikini top, vintage capris, and perhaps a well-worn T-shirt—somehow becomes a complete statement. There’s no overthinking, no forced trends, just an innate sense of self.

Even in the face of uncertainty, Israelis manage to project a kind of casual confidence that makes anything they wear look unintentionally put together. Fashion isn’t performative here—it’s instinctive. It’s about function, comfort, resilience… and still, without fail, looking incredible.
Being in Israel has reminded me why I love fashion. It’s not always about turning heads; it’s about feeling like yourself, even when the world feels heavy. And in a place that has seen its fair share of hard days, it’s clear: Israelis might dress simply, but their style speaks volumes.
